Lindsay Wilcox-Reid

Equipilates™ founder and author of Pilates for Riders

Lindsay Wilcox-Reid is the founder of Equipilates™ and was the first British Dressage Registered Trainer in the UK to recognise the potential of Pilates to transform riders and commit to train as a professional teacher of classical Pilates; she holds the Level 3 Pilates instructor qualification (advanced) and is accredited on the Register of Exercise Professionals.  Lindsay is a Group 3 Rider with experience of competing and training horses up to advanced levels in dressage.  She is an experienced and inspirational teacher, dedicated to promoting correct training principles and bringing the biomechanics and musculature of each individual horse and rider combination together in harmony.   She is able to show you how to open doors, both within yourself and your horse, which may have seemed forever locked!  She is in a unique position to train the rider's body and mind whilst incorporating correct development of the horse according to classical principles.  She has an incredibly sensitive eye for the smallest detail, and through her insight and perception of asymmetric movement and postural imbalances (which may be barely visually noticeable) inherent in everybody, she is able to take your performance to a whole new level, whether you are a weekend rider or an international equestrian athlete.

Lindsay takes referals from other equestrian professionals (trainers, equine physios, vets and saddle fitters) to help their clients with postural issues which can affect the horse in ways ranging from difficulty with lateral movements in one direction to persistent saddle fit problems or lameness caused by poor rider balance/alignment.  Lindsay teaches throughout the UK and beyond; she has had several training articles published in the British Dressage Magazine in 2008 and has also featured in Your Horse magazine (May 2009), NFU Countryside magazine (October 2009) and Horsescene and Your Horse Magazines in 2010.  Lindsay has presented very well received Equipilates demonstrations in the Interactive Zone, now the 'Improve Your Riding' Zone, at the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Your Horse Live event.  Her book, Pilates for Riders, is receiving worldwide acclaim and is published by JA Allen.

TDS Absolut

Alfie is a real personality on the yard-he is a 17hh KWPN gelding and is currently winning at Advanced level with Lindsay and training at Intermediare 1 level at home (along with some rather posh piaffe and passage when he is in the mood!) He is a cheeky chappie and loves to lick you to death, or alternatively have his bottom scratched.  He is Lindsay's best friend.

TDS Tuxedo

TDS Tuxedo is a strapping chap at 18.2hh-  he came to the yard straight from being a full time munching machine at stud last June, after his half brother's (Taba) sudden death in the May.  Lindsay thinks he was still there because everyone thought he was too big to ride- good job she thought differently!  He is also Boo's full brother and shows some of her teddy-bear characteristics!  He is only just being backed and will spend most of this year doing general bits and bobs, before hopefully venturing into the (20 x 60, obviously!) white boards at the end of the year.  He has a lot of presence as he wasn't cut nearly 4 years old, and Lindsay is looking forward to taking him out and about- but if you see him looking imposing, not to worry, he's like a big puppy really!

TDS Trooper

TDS Trooper is a 16hh 7 yo Tombola x Altantus gelding.  He is currently being backed, and is proving to be (touch wood) an absolute star with cracking paces and a great attitude.  Lindsay hopes to introduce him to going out and about over the winter and will compete him next year.  More pics to follow as he progresses!

Trooper has now been sold to Catherine Marshall, based in Scotland, who is one of the trainee teachers on Philippe Karl's Ecole de Legerete course currently running here in the UK.  We wish Catherine the best of luck with our little super Trooper and look forward to seeing her out and about on him!

TDS Ticketyboo

Schoolmistress and general superstar

After seven fabulous years here at The Dressage Studio, Lindsay's wonderful friend and partner Boo, who has been such a help to so many people on the lunge (kindly and patiently waiting for them to bounce less and realign in balance!) has gone to start her new career as a mum.  She has gone to Twemlows stud as a recipient mare for embryo transfer- we will miss her greatly, but await news of her exciting foal!

The bootylicious Boo The bootylicious Boo

Boo is a 16.2hh 9 yo HanxBWB mare with big paces and big ears!! (everyone comments on them!)  Lindsay has owned her since a three year old and backed her herself.  She has lightly competed up to Medium level and has achieved many 70%+ scores, qualifying for several Regionals Championships and the Area Festival Finals.  She is now working at Advanced level.

TDS Taba Heights

Superstar in training

Lindsay lost her fabulous young horse Taba in May '11 in heartbreaking circumstances due to an aortic valve rupture in the field. Taba holds a very special place in the hearts of everyone at TDS.

Taba is a 18.1hh 5 yo HanxBWB gelding, half brother to Boo, and has been owned by Lindsay since a three year old.  He has very large scopey paces and by Lindsay's reckoning will grow at least another two inches in height!  Lindsay has very high hopes for him and he has already shown great promise in the competition arena, scoring over 71% in the Badminton Young Dressage Horse of the Future competition.  Lindsay is taking his training very slowly and carefully as he is such a big chap and will take a long time to grow into his extremely long legs!  He is currently going out and about seeing different places; Taba was ridden by Lindsay's friend Catherine Marshall (who also owns Taba's brother) on the first clinic of classical master Philippe Karl's École de Légèreté (School of Lightness) 3 year teacher training course, which Lindsay is also attending.  M.Karl commented that Taba has 'excellent natural balance and motion- an exceptionally talented horse with a big future'.  Lindsay was understandably very proud- he behaved himself impeccably in front of a 70 strong audience!
