You’ll learn how riders need to move and stabilise when in the saddle, and you’ll explore the ‘Rider’s ABC’; alignment, breathing and core sense as featured in the book ‘Pilates for Riders’.  You’ll also discover more about intrinsic biomechanics; how your riding clients (and in fact all clients!) are actually working-or not- on the inside. Horses are extremely sensitive to the differences in rider performance using these analysis and intervention techniques and results can be quite remarkable in a short space of time.

Based on the latest scientific research in biomechanics and core activation, incorporating these additional skills into your teaching will offer enormous potential to your clients to improve their performance and partnership with their horses. These techniques are introduced in the book ‘Core Connection for Rider & Horse’.

Not just what's going on with your riders, but why...

Don't guess...assess!

In this course, we dig a little deeper into your rider’s intrinsic biomechanics to advance your knowledge, increase your confidence and help you provide your clients with special techniques to change their movement patterns, help them move more freely (and even reduce pain) including:
  • Could stretching be the wrong way to increase the length of their muscles?

  • Could the way their pelvis is functioning be influencing their lower back pain?

  • Is their pec minor function the cause of their unwanted upper body position in the saddle?

Why is a muscle shortened?

Find out why ‘tightness’ is only one reason why muscles can be short, or restricted.
Here we look at the evidence proving to be the most common reason for a muscle being shortened and what this means to your exercise prescription. You will have immediately implementable skills that enable you to screen the intrinsic biomechanics of your clients or potential clients in the studio or on the gym floor. Demonstrate how you can identify easily if they are functioning optimally within seconds and then correct these issues by with very simple release techniques there and then.

Build a whole-body biomechanical profile

PELVIC ASSESSMENTS
  • LLD – Identify a leg length difference
  • Downings Sign – then identify if it is functional or structural

  • 4 sign test – Does the pelvis function normally?

  • Modified Thomas Test – Are the hip flexors inhibited?
HOW WELL IS THE SPINE MOVING?
  • QL Test – Do they have a spinal hinge?

  • Spinal mobility tests – Confirm where the lack of spinal mobility is coming from

SHOULDERS
  • Pec minor screen – Poor posture? Identify a key biomechanical pillar in shoulder problems

  • Upper traps screen – Upper back and neck issues

and how to help them improve!

PLUS
  • Explore how to help your clients in dismounted awareness sessions with our ‘Riders’ ABC’

How it works

Simply click here to complete the course enrolment form and schedule a fifteen minute online induction where you'll meet your course tutor; we can show you how to access all of your learning materials and answer any queries.  After your induction is booked you'll make payment and we will set up your access to your pre-course learning.  As you work through the modules, you will be able to schedule a one-hour Zoom tutorial with your course tutor.  Once each module is completed, this will be marked and feedback given within 14 days.  During your tutorial, you will be able to discuss practical tasks given through the course, plus any queries and areas of personal development identified. You'll complete a second on-to-one tutorial here at Equipilates HQ, which can be scheduled on the same day as your practical assessment, to support you with the practical components and develop your skills with the screening techniques.  Your tutor is available throughout via your learner Facebook group and via email; we aim to respond to all emails within 48 hours.  You'll also work through group tutorials with your intake group to explore topics covered within the online learning platform in more detail.   After you've completed your portfolio you will be able to schedule your practical assessment.  We have practical assessment days regularly throughout the year so you can find one to suit.  Following this, you can crack on with your case studies! We will process your application and send course access within 24 hours.  Your assessment must be scheduled within six months of initial course enrolment.

Assessments

There is a practical assessment of the intrinsic biomechanics skills and ABC delivery, on location at Equipilates™ HQ in Derbyshire.  This lasts around one and a half hours including viva.   In case of referral, one free resit will be offered.  You will also be required to submit two case studies comprising four sessions each no later than twelve weeks after the course.  After successful completion of the case studies, you're a fully fledged Equipilates Biomechanics Trainer™ and can use all of our branding!
The usual course format, delivered with 32 hours in total of face to face learning has been converted into online format.  We would advise to devote a minimum of this time plus approximately fifteen hours of post-course study to complete case studies.
